Asmaa graduated from Dublin City University in 2011 with a first class honours bachelor of Biomedical Engineering. Throughout her undergraduate years she was awarded a place with the DiaMonD (Diagnostics for Monitoring Disease) UREKA  summer research program in the summer of 2009. This gave her opportunity to research with the NCPST (National Centre for Plasma Science & Technology ), BDI (Biomedical Diagnostic Institution) and MPRC (Material Processing Research Centre) for three months.

In 2010, she did a 6 months placement in BSC (Boston Scientific Corporation) Galway with the PTA (Percutaneous Transluminal Angioplasty) Sapphire team. Asmaa is currently pursuing a PhD in the area of Nanomaterial’s where she has to develop a high surface to volume ratio nanostructured cerium oxide-based solar conversion system. This system will be designed for the efficient thermo-chemical dissociation of H2O and CO2 for solar-thermal fuel production.
