Energy & Design Lab DCU

The Energy and Design laboratory in DCU was established to facilitate fundamental and applied research in energy engineering, with a particular emphasis on the design, modelling, and analysis of sustainable energy systems and installations, and the design of energy efficient devices.

The laboratory is keen to foster relationships with industrial collaborators and other institutions with aligned interests. Our research facilities are augmented by a prototyping facility for rapid development and realization of prototype designs and systems.

Our mission is to provide real tangible benefits to our partners in energy-related product innovation and in economic and policy level energy strategies.

The Energy and Design lab was developed under the leadership of Dr. Stephen Daniels. Other affiliated faculty include Dr. Sean Marlow, Prof. PatrickMcNally and Dr. Conor McArdle. The team has already achieved significant success in attracting funding and researchers to work on projects with a particular emphasis on the design, modelling, and analysis of sustainable energy systems and installations, and the design of energy efficient devices. The lab also led a recent successful application for UDRI (University Designated Research Initiative) support within DCU, which includes strong participation by other researchers and groups.
